St Mary's Church, Send - Stained Glass Windows

To show the lovely variety of stained glass windows in St Mary's church is not an easy matter as the windows are high up and difficult to photograph.

On the South wall is a depiction in three panels of the story of the Good Samaritan

In picture 1 a traveller, robbed at the roadside, is ignored by the Priest and the Levite.

Another traveller stops to help him, pouring oil and wine on his wounds and bandaging him.

He takes the man to an inn and takes care of him - the following day, paying the innkeeper to look after him and promising to pay for any further care on his next visit.

It is now revealed that this benevolent stranger is a Samaritan - one of a despised ethnic minority.

This story of compassion and generosity is an inspiration and challenge to all Christians.

This window, in the North wall is known as the Dorcas window.

It was erected in memory of Fanny Boughton "by those who knew her benevolence and felt her bounty." Dorcas was a woman of good works mentioned in Acts chapter 9 "She spent all her time doing good and helping the poor."
